Rubell Family Collection Highlights & Artists' Writings I

At 700 pages, Highlights and Artists’ Writings, Volume 1 is the Rubell Family Collection’s most extensive overview catalog to date and includes text written for this publication from many of the artists. At its most recent count, over 6,800 works by 833 contemporary artists make up the Rubells’ collection; this catalog illustrates 880 of these works by 250 of the artists. The overview is arranged by the date the artist’s work was first acquired, providing a timeline of the life of the Collection. Also included is a comprehensive list of loaned artwork—to over 200 institutions in 26 countries—specific to the works within the overview. These loans and the overview itself, underscore the Rubells’ commitment to artists and viewers alike that has been critical to the development of the collection throughout its history. Included among the 250 artists are Jean-Michel Basquiat, Marlene Dumas, Keith Haring, Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Oscar Murillo, Elizabeth Peyton, Cindy Sherman, Kara Walker and Andy Warhol.
